Undercover Agent

Thank you to Heather Slade for the gifted copy of Undercover Agent. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Synopsis

Resisting a cocky undercover agent is her mission impossible…

Lynx
It was one night,
A night of pure passion and desire,
A night I will never forget.
But she walked out,
And I never stopped thinking about her.
And now, she’s back
Within reach.
And again, she’s off-limits,
Belongs to someone else,
One of my men.
Teaming up with her to take down
Those who threaten our freedoms
Seems like a perfect way to get close to her,
But there’s more at stake than ever before.

Emerson
I never forgot him.
He was—is—everything.
But the timing was off;
I had more happening in my life than I could handle.
And now, with him right there,
I can feel how much I’ve missed:
His touch, his scent, his taste.
Except, there’s more on the line
Than a love affair.
We have to keep it professional.
But can I do that when
I need so much more from this undercover agent?

Review

I recently discovered both Heather Slade and The Cocky Hero Club novels, and boy am I glad that I did!! I absolutely loved the story. The characters were awesome…equal parts sass and steam from both Lynx and Emerson, which made for a page turning story that I just could not put down. Lynx, the cocky British undercover agent and Emerson a scientist with mad skills thrust together to save the world, while trying to fight the feelings they have for each other…what could go wrong?!? While this was a romance novel, there was also action, adventure, and mystery woven in, which I really enjoyed. Heather’s writing pulled me in at page one and before I knew it, I was done with the book. I loved her descriptive writing – describing the characters and the story in a way that sucked me right in and made me feel like I was part of the story…like I was walking alongside the characters living the same things they were. This story had equal parts romance and action/adventure and I loved every minute of it! While this was the first book I read by Heather Slide, you better believe that I will be picking up many more of her books in the future (more specifically the near future)!

About the Author

I write stories set in places I love with characters I’d be happy to call friends. The women in my books are self-confident, successful, and strong, with wills of their own, and hearts as big as the Colorado sky. And the men are sublimely sexy, seductive alphas who rise to the challenge of capturing the sweet soul of a woman whose heart they’ll hold in the palm of their hand forever. I grew up an East Coast girl, and then spent half my life on the West Coast. Now my husband, our two boys, and I happily call Colorado home.

**This is Book 4 in the Briar U series

Review

I have loved Elle Kennedy’s writing since the first time I read one of her books, and this book did not disappoint!!! Elle Kennedy has a way of writing that “plops” you right into the story (this is a good thing, trust me!!) and doesn’t let you out until you have reached the very end…and I loved every minute of it!!! While this was Book 4 in the series, it did not matter that I had not read the other 3. Elle writes with plenty of detail, so you don’t feel like you have missed a thing! I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was to have Taylor as a main character…someone with curves instead of the beautiful, stick thin characters that are in many other romance books that I have read. It was refreshing to read of a character who had an issue with their body (not that I wish anyone to have an issues with their body) and bring a real-life issue into a romance story, that many romance books do not touch on. I feel like there are so many people that can relate to this story line, and I was pleasantly surprised (in a good way) that body image was included in this book. Elle Kennedy is a FANTASTIC writer and I can’t wait to pick up another one of her books!! These are books that I defiantly get lost in and do not “surface” until I have read the entire book in one sitting! I hope you enjoy Elle’s writing as much as I do!!

Excerpt

“Thank you,” she breathes the moment we’re alone.

“No problem. Mind if I make myself comfortable?”

“Um, yeah. I mean, no. I don’t mind. Sit if you want. Or—wow, okay, you’re lying down.”

I grin at her visible nervousness. It’s cute. While I stretch out my six-foot-two frame amid the stuffed animals and decorative pillows on the bed, she remains the startled rabbit plastered against the door and breathing heavily.

“Gotta be honest,” I tell her, entwining my hands behind my head, “I’ve never seen a girl so unhappy to be locked in a bedroom with me.”

This has the desired effect of loosening her shoulders and even eliciting a shy smile. “I have no doubt.”

“I’m Conor, by the way.”

She rolls her eyes. “Yeah, I know.”

“What’s the eyeroll for?” I ask, playing wounded.

“No, sorry, I didn’t mean anything by it. Just, I know who you are. You’re, like, campus famous.”

The more I watch her, hands braced at her sides against the door, one knee bent, dirty-blonde hair a little messy and draped over one shoulder, I can’t help picturing myself holding her arms above her head while I explore her body with my mouth. She’s got very kissable skin.

“Taylor Marsh,” she blurts out, and I realize I don’t know how long we were silent until then.

I scoot to the far side of the bed and put a pillow beside me as a divider. “Come on. If we’re going to be in here awhile, let’s at least make friends.”

Taylor laughs out a breath and with it she releases a bit more tension. She’s got a nice smile. Bright, warm. It takes a bit more coaxing, however, to get her on the bed.

“This isn’t like a move,” she tells me, lining up stuffed animal guards to patrol the pillow wall between us. “I’m not some sort of weirdo who tricks men into getting in bed with her and then mauls them.”

“Sure.” I nod with mock seriousness. “But a little mauling would be okay.”

LazLo’s Dream Machines: Motorcycle Romance Collection

Thank you to author Tracey Cramer-Kelly and Silver Dagger Book Tours for the gifted copy of these books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Synopsis

Working at LazLo’s custom motorcycle shop is more than just a job…

Welcome to LazLo’s Dream Machines, where the motorcycles are hot—and the men are even hotter! They’re not looking for love, but as things heat up (in more ways than one!), you never know what’ll happen…

Book 1: Mercury Falling

The biker club Kerry “Mercury” Dawson joined as a teen may have lived life on the dangerous side, but they were the first “family” Kerry ever had. Even with his new job at LazLo’s Dream Machines, the club is still a big part of his life—until the day he crashes a motorcycle he wasn’t supposed to be riding, and wakes up in Lucy’s emergency room.

Book 2: What Happens in Sturgis

The fact that Vince avoids kissing has never stopped him from getting what he wants from women. But now he’s shared a little too much with his new co-worker, Tori—and she’s made it her personal mission to change his opinion. Falling for each other is NOT in the plan. After all, what happens in Sturgis, stays in Sturgis. Or does it?

Book 3: CrossOver

Vaughn’s not thrilled when his boss asks him to work on a motocross bike. But what the bike’s owner, Gabby, lacks in height, she makes up for with her fierce competitive spirit—and mind-blowing kisses. Not everyone wants to see her succeed on the track, though, and Vaughn’s repair skills keep falling short. Is Gabby just not cut out for the big time, or is someone determined to get her off the race track permanently?

Book 4: Rumble

Shop owner Lazarus “Laz” Lowenstein keeps his past carefully concealed, and for good reason. When a friend calls in a favor, he finds himself perilously close to the life he left behind—and to fledgling reporter, Nora Carlton. Helping Nora research a story is one thing; exploring his desire for the sheltered single mom is a definite no-no. Can Nora restore his faith in people… and love?

Review

Y’all, this was such a fun series of novellas. At a total length of 162 pages, this was a quick read that I really enjoyed. Each story had a different synopsis that was real and plausible. The motorcycle men were all likable (and quite handsome from the way they were described) and the women were all completely different from them…think the complete opposite. I thought the stories were cute, however was a little put off that the characters met and within a week they were in love. It just seemed really, really, quick to me, especially with some of the men’s histories. Other than that, I loved reading these books. Tracey Cramer-Kelly’s writing flows so easily and creates a great story. I am definitely going to pick up some of her other books!!!

About the Author

Many experiences influence Tracey’s writing, and she has been known to undertake unusual endeavors (such as firefighter training and learning to fly a helicopter) just for the sake of the experience. Being an Army-trained combat medic and a “biker chick” for over 30 years has had significant influence in her books, but even “ordinary” events have struck a chord or inspired a character or plot idea.

In 2018 Tracey returned to school to recertify as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and currently works at various sporting and music events when she’s not processing orders for the family business (Leader Motorcycle) or working at a substance abuse counseling center.

Tracey lives in small-town Minnesota with her husband, two kids, and two cats. They are a true “soccer family” (she even worked as a referee for two years). She enjoys downhill skiing and spending time at the family lake place. She has also owned and operated an MC business, Leader Motorcycle, for 17 years http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/

Claire has a plan. It isn’t perfect, but anything is better than becoming the next victim.

Review

This was a nice quick read that I really enjoyed. Monique Bird has a unique way of writing that keeps that story light an airy, while still weaving the scariness of a murder and someone’s life being in danger. In addition, Monique Bird had a way of writing that allowed me to walk along side Claire, and be “a part of her life.” It was so much fun to read and see what kind of trouble Claire got into. Monique Bird also did a fantastic job of keeping me guessing. Every time I thought they had captured the killer and Claire’s life was now safe, there was a twist that Monique through in to push you off the right track. These twists added such fun to the story that you could not help but laugh at Claire and her bad luck. This was a great cozy mystery and I really enjoyed discovering Monique Bird as an author. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and other books of Monique’s.

Stacy Eaton is a new to me author and I am so glad that I was given the opportunity to read one of her books as part of this tour!! Stacy Eaton is a wonderful writer who describes the characters in such a way, that you can picture them in your mind’s eye in perfect detail and also feel like they are a real part of your life. This book was definitely not what I expected…and in a really, really good way!!! This book was full of twists and turns in the story that I never saw coming, which made this book all the more enjoyable to read. This book was not some generic romance novel with the same old characters and the same old plot. This book is filled with real life scenarios that the reader can relate to and experience right alongside the characters. This book was real and raw and I was so captured by the story that I read the book in one day! I am so pleased by the experience that I had with Stacy Eaton’s writing, that I will for sure be reading the rest of this series as well as be picking up other books by this author.

Review

AJ Alexander is a new to me author and I am SO, SO glad that I discovered her!! In this book, AJ Alexander writes of a mafia princess and the man who is tasked with protecting her. Since this author was a new to me author, I had no idea what to expect walking into this story. However, at 84 pages, this novella did not disappoint. This book started with action and the action continued throughout. AJ Alexander pulled me in from page 1 and didn’t let go until page 84. I enjoyed the characters that AJ Alexander created and their interactions with each other. I also really liked how quickly AJ Alexander explained the the history of the characters and then continued on with the meat of the story. AJ Alexander writes in a way that makes you believe that you are part of the action and adventure of the story and makes you like the characters instantly. I was actually sad that this book was so short, and would have loved for it to go on longer. I am so glad that I discovered AJ Alexander and can’t wait to read more of her books!!!

Review

I Deserve His Love by Chiquita Dennie, was a nice quick read. While there was a lot to pack into this novella in the short amount of pages it contained, Chiquita Dennie did a fantastic job of including all the relevant details, while adding in some of the nice “fluff” we all like, which makes a book a book!! Chiquita did a great job of explaining the characters, explaining the plot, and then telling the story all in a succinct fashion. This book spanned several time periods and Chiquita Dennie did a fantastic of keeping the reader in the know of what was happening. I was never confused as to where I was in the timeline. I really enjoyed the story of Makayla and Amir and felt that that the story was very realistic, filled with joy, heartache, and love. I defiantly enjoyed this book and will be picking up more books by Chiquita Dennie in the future!!

Shadow Wolves

This month I partnered with The Review Crew and author Jake Kaminski to read and review Shadow Wolves. This book was a gifted copy, and all opinions are my own.

Synopsis

Meet Ethan Crowe, a Lakota Sioux tracker who spent a career with the Delta Forces and the Defense Intelligence Agency. Crowe’s story begins in the hellish nightmare of Bosnia, where as a young scout for a Ranger company, he and two other Native Americans help track down the Skorpions, a Serbian militia committing genocide on the local populace.

The action shifts to the present and the southern border of the United States. Powerful Mexican drug cartels are utilizing vast stretches of the border to send billions of dollars in illegal drugs into the US. Powerful drug lords preside like kings over their empires, secluded and untouchable in their remote mountain fortresses.

Killing fields are being found on both sides of the border. Homeland Security needs a solution. General Darren Evans has been asked to form a special team of Native American trackers to combat the cartels where they are most vulnerable in the Arizona borderlands. The group is to be called the Shadow Wolves, and General Evans knows exactly the man to lead them.

Crowe is lured out of retirement to the Arizona desert. An elite team is born, comprised of tough, dedicated Native Americans from tribes across the United States. Within the team are two remarkable Apache women-fierce warriors who will become the soul of the Shadow Wolves. They will battle the vicious Zetas, moving through the desert landscape like ghosts.

A mysterious figure sits on the throne of the Zeta cartel. Known only as Yaotl, he claims pure Aztec blood. He lives by his own rules in complete disdain for the laws of the West. A gruesome series of murders and the discovery of twenty young girls being sold in the desert set the stage for a confrontation between the feared Zetas and the Shadow Wolves.

The Shadow Wolves will follow a blood trail that takes them all the way to the corridors of power in Washington, DC.

Review

WOW!!! This was a heavy book. There were so many feelings and questions that arose as I read it. Jake Kaminski is an absolutely amazing writer…I think he was made to write this book.  While I don’t generally read historical fiction, when I read the synopsis of this book, there was something that pulled me in, telling me this was an important one to read.  I am so glad that I paid attention to that little voice.  Jake Kaminski writes of the horrors that are seen by those trying to protect the borders of the US and stop the illegal import of drugs and women being sex-trafficked.  This book was eye opener for sure.  There were so many carefully constructed details and back stories that Jake Kaminski crafted to make the book what it was.  Normally when I read historical fiction, I feel like I have no idea what is being talked about, but in this book, Jake Kaminski provided enough details and back story to help me understand exactly what was going on and therefore I felt like I was right there, in on all the action, and part of the team.  Although I am unsure how much of this book is true and how much is fiction, what I do know is this book is reminiscent of what we see today at our US boarders.  The pain and torture of girls and women of all ages being sex-trafficked (an now boys as well).  The duty to protect our boarders at any cost.  And the illegal activity of trying to sneak drugs over the boarder and into the US.  This book was so well written and captivating, that I was sad to see the book end.  That is the one thing I did not like about this book…that it ended too soon.  I wanted more of the story.  I wanted to know what happened to the Zetas and Ethan Crowe and his crew.  I just felt there was so much more to tell and the book wrapped up too quickly with so many unanswered questions.

I can not say enough how much I enjoyed this book.  I am definitely excited to get my hand on Jake Kaminski’s new book “Ghostwalkers,” a sequel to this story that “will center heavily on Ethan Crowe and some of his team as they take their fight into the highlands of Central Mexico and into the “belly of the beast”.”  To say I am excited for this new book is an understatement!

Will the truth come out before the person calling the shots takes Sheridan and Maddie out of the picture?

Review

I was really looking forward to reading this book, as I love a good mystery as much as the next person; however, this book just didn’t live up to my expectations. While the synopsis and the over all story were good, I felt like the build up of this story was really slow for my tastes. It took a long time to learn all the information related to the murder, and for me, the way the information was presented was a bit on the confusing side. I did love the characters that were created and I enjoyed the relationships between the characters.

The one thing that bothered me just a little, was that I had never picked up a Christa Nardi book before, and it without a little back history on the characters, some of the information presented in this book was confusing to me. It took me a long time to figure out how all the characters and their backgrounds fit together. I would have wished for just a bit more information on Brett, his daughter, and their relationship with Sheridan as well as a little background on why she had left her previous teaching position. Although this book is the start of a new series, and you should be able to start a series without reading the author’s previous books, I felt that I should have read the author’s Cold Creek Series books first.
