The Swiss Mishap

This month I was able to do another review with Goddess Fish Promotions! I love being a partner with them and being given the chance to read and review books before they are released to the general public. I have not read any of Amey Zeigler’s books before, and this book was a great introduction to her writing. I would enjoy reading more of her books!

Synopsis

Elaine Peterson, better know as Lainey LOVES chocolate. She loves chocolate so much that she has spent the last 12 years of her life learning as much as she can about chocolate. She has learned to design, create, and produce quality chocolate bars.

Lainey travels to Switerland for what she believes will be an internship at Alpine Foods working in their chocolate department. When she arrives and finds out that the internship has been canceled, she decides to do whatever it takes to get herself in the chocolate department.

Yves Claremont, a department chair at Alpine foods, takes mercy on Lainey and offers her an internship in the Pet Care Department. He offers that with the promise that if she does a good job, she will be recommended for the chocolate department when she is done with her internship,

As Lainey begins to work in Yves Claremont’s department, she begins to find herself drawn to him. Yves too begins to find that he has a growing attraction for Lainey. However, at Apline Foods inter-office relationships are forbidden. Will Lainey and Yves be able to build a romantic relationship or will a co-worker, who is jealous of the success Yves has had, undermine both Yves and Lainey?

Review

This story was cute. Not the usual way that I start off my reviews, but at this time in my life, I needed cute. This book had a great story line and the lightheartedness of the story, pulled me in during a time that is hectic and stressful. Amey Zeigler does a wonderful job and describing characters and situations in the book, to where it makes you feel like you are right there with the character, more specifically Lainey, experiencing what she is experiencing. This book, although not written as a suspense book, kept me guessing as to what was going to happen to Laieny (and Yves) next. I really enjoyed this charming story and hope to read more of Amey’s work in the future.

Excerpt From the Book

“C’est dommage. Le département de chocolat cannot you take.”

Marie Claire’s bluntness quickened Lainey’s heartbeat. Heat radiated from her face, her heartbeat pulsed into her head. Her brow lifted off her skull. Please, don’t pass out, she silently prayed. She didn’t want to know how hard the granite floor was. “Why not?”

“Bad economy, vous voyez,” she said. “Their budget was cut dernière minute. There is no money. You have to return home.”

“But I’ve come so far.” She couldn’t return home, not when she was in the lobby. Not when she could almost smell the chocolate. She closed her eyes, breathing deeply, hoping to stop the train wreck inside her head. All she envisioned was the image of her beaming parents waving goodbye as she bustled through security. What would their expressions be if she returned home tomorrow? “What am I going to do?” she asked.

Marie Claire shrugged with a pained expression on her face.

Chocolate! Lainey needed chocolate!

Her tongue lolled in her mouth, craving a molten blob of chocolatey goodness to soothe her spirits and calm her heart, but the delayed flights depleted her choco-stash. There was nothing left—zilch, nada, rien du tout.

“Is there somewhere else I can work? Some other department? Some other job?” She would mop floors, empty trash cans, anything at Alpine Foods. She didn’t say this aloud. It wasn’t the best bargaining chip to appear too needy. Maybe she could wander the lobby with a sign around her neck, “Will work for chocolate.” Her nose tingled. She sneezed. She always sneezed right before she cried. “Please. I’m willing to do anything.”
